Eddy Peak Lookout

At a driving distance of about 18 miles from the center of Thompson Falls, Montana, Eddy Mountain Lookout is one of many such fire lookouts in the Sanders County area. Commonly referred to as "Eddy Peak", the site is accessible by vehicle along an 8 mile long, one lane dirt road.

At an elevation of 6957', the fire tower provides views for hundreds of miles around. The tower is staffed in the summer, and visitors are always welcome.

With the 360 views, Eddy Peak gives you a "top of the world" feeling like no other! Facing northwest, the views of Thompson Falls and surrounding mountains are spectacular. To the northeast, the views toward Plains are breathtaking, and include the winding Clark Fork River, as well as the Mission Mountain range over 100 miles away! Turn to the south, and you will see nothing but miles & miles of mountain ranges, many with navigable deer & walking trails.

For the hiking enthusiast, numerous well worn trails are available all along the 8 mile stretch to the top. Once at the top, you may choose to brave the steep trail down to a picturesque trout filled lake, where you can spend a peaceful afternoon fishing, or just watching for wildlife. Keep your camera ready, and don't be surprised if you see deer, elk, moose, coyote, or even bear roaming around this quiet little lake.

Directions to Eddy Peak from Thompson Falls:
From Main Street Thompson Falls, drive west through town, cross the Clark Fork River, then turn left (south) on Prospect Creek Rd.
Drive about 1 1/2+- miles, and turn left (east) on Cherry Creek Rd. Go 5-6 miles, till pavement ends, and turn right on dirt road. Follow main road for 8 miles to Eddy Peak. (Road will split a couple of miles up, take the upper road on the left.)
